Beijing, China
Well, I’m here. My first day is China is complete. I am exhausted from both the trip and the emotions. All I want to do is crawl in bed. So, I’m going to make this short and sweet tonight.
Last time we talked, I was in Dallas getting ready to board a flight. Well, I actually got on that flight and, after 14 hours, landed in China. The flight was fairly uneventful excluding a little bout of illness (Mom blames the stress; I blame the flight’s lunch). After we landed, I met up with the other EF teachers and we headed to the hotel.
The story I want to share with you is our adventure to dinner. A group of 8 of us got together and decided we wanted to go get some real Chinese food for dinner. After debating where we should go, we followed the awesome advice of a guy named Caleb and went to grab food from an area nearby. We made a 5 minute trek to the subway station and bought our tickets. That was an adventure! We spent so long trying to figure out how to read the machine in Chinese before realizing there was an “English” button at the bottom. Once we were on the train, we travelled down two stops and headed off to get food. We walked the streets for a while before we decided on a small little restaurant a few blocks down.
Dinner was great! My table got peppered beef and fried rice, thanks to Kayla who can actually speak Chinese. Most of the meal was spent getting to know each other. It was really cool hearing about peoples’ backstories and the things that make them tick. After dinner we made a quick stop at 7/11 (yeah, that actually exists here) to grab water and face masks. Seriously, the smog here is ridiculous. Thank goodness I brought allergy pills. After making our purchases, we headed back to the hotel. I was able to talk to my parents and take a nice shower.
So that’s my day, short and sweet. Here are our words to remember for the day: Daniel 7:11-14. I challenge you to remember that Abba is King of the Universe and that He has everything in His hands. Ask Him to help you trust and let go. Believe me, I’m learning that lesson right now.
Good Night and Bless!
