Petrichor

Beijing, China

So Spring in China officially starts after Chinese New Year. But Spring in Beijing is not like Spring in Southern Ohio. Beijing is super dry! As in, I seriously have no idea how things grow here. But today it rained! You have to understand, this is the first time it has rained in China since I moved into my apartment. We had a few days of rain right after we arrived in China and a little bit of snow, but there really hasn’t been much precipitation. But as nice as rain is, again, it’s just not the same as Ohio rain.

You know the smell of rain? Where everything just smells clean. There’s actually a word for that smell: petrichor. I love that smell! If I were to make Amortentia—the love potion from Harry Potter—I’m pretty sure that would be one of the three smells that came out. I miss that smell, because it just doesn’t exist in Beijing. Even with the rain today, it didn’t feel clean. The smog has been really bad over the past few days—probably because of the incoming rain. As a result, the rain was dirty even as it fell from the sky. It’s still nice, though, to see the wet grass and feel the moisture in the air. It’s a nice change of pace.

Words to Remember: Numbers 9:4-5, 9-12
Challenge: Day 11: How do you remind yourself to do things? Do you keep a todo list, set reminders on your phone, use string tied to your fingers? How do you remind yourself of Abba and what He has done for you? Today, create a symbol to remind you of Abba’s faithfulness. It could be something simple, like a note stuck on your bathroom mirror, or something more meaningful, like a cross hanging from your car’s rearview mirror. Find something that will help you remember Abba’s love for you.

Goodnight,
Kristen
